The New York Police Department (NYPD) yesterday remembered Guyana-born New York cop, Randolph Holder who was shot and killed in the line of duty seven years ago.

A memorial mass was held in honour of Holder yesterday morning at the Roman Catholic Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception Stabroek, Brickdam, Georgetown.

Among those who attended were relatives of Holder, a number of Government officials and member of the NYPD.

NYPD officers and relatives of Randolph Holder were among those who attended yesterday’s memorial service.

Holder was killed in the line of duty on October 20, 2015 while attempting to apprehend an armed suspect.

At the time, he was responding to a report of shots fired and the theft of a bicycle in Manhattan, East Harlem, New York.

“We made a promise on that day to #NeverForget his memory, a promise we continue to keep — this day and every day,” the NYPD yesterday said in a Facebook post.

The suspect, 32-year-old Tyrone Howard, was sentenced to life in prison for the crime in 2017. He was charged with first-degree murder, robbery and weapons possession.

Holder migrated to the US at a very tender age and later enlisted in the NYPD, where he served for 5 years prior to his demise. His parents had served as police officers in Guyana prior to migrating.
