Stronger measures required from the police and EPA to combat noise nuisance

Dear Editor,

In the wee hours of Saturday 27th August, a big session with loud music was coming from vehicles parked at this entity after 2 a,m. in the morning. I made a report to Kitty Police Station later on that day. Editor, I am not interested in anyone being imprisoned, but instant removal for the lawlessness and vulgarity these people seem to think it’s their God right to exercise without a care or thought of the misery and terror they are inflicting on others. Editor, my take on all this where it comes to justice being served in this case it was practically nil.  Speaking from experience, these people deliberately encourage their friends to pump up the volume of their vehicles as a form of punishment if we the residents dare to complain by making reports to the Police and when the Patrol responds. A response by them is just a ritual by them appearing to turn the music down, nothing more, no real serious action on the rule of law that noise nuisance is an offence and the perpetrator must be disciplined. What is the function of the EPA? Who knows of the torment and misery being inflicted on the residents here and haven’t done anything significant to stop this cruelty and harassment added to this a few more of these caravans have added themselves to join the merry bunch and they have adopted the same negative attitude of those already there by playing very loud music any hour of the night too.

Why isn’t the Police doing anything to curb noise nuisance acts, especially those unreasonable owners of vehicles with those heavy boom boxes who deliberately and maliciously startle people from their sleep around two and three a.m. every morning. That is our waking hours in the wee hours of the mornings. As the Christmas holidays slowly approach and the urge to imbibe intensifies, I am calling on the EPA and the Police to execute their duties in a more responsible manner. To those in the community who heartlessly sat in silence while me alone had to go through this trauma and everyone was feeling it, a big zero to you, this is not how a community operates, sucking one person’s blood in pretense of fear, to curb terrorist acts like this and to stand up to bullies – unity is the key. Now that a little ease is manifesting everyone is enjoying it but it isn’t fully over, so you guys still have a chance to fight against the corruption and deception of those in authority so that we, the citizens, can enjoy a better life free of those atrocities we face on a daily basis. Thanks to my next door neighbour, she was and still is the only vocal one. While our right to sleep, protect our health and have peace in our homes continues to be trampled upon mercilessly. While those in authority continue to play deaf, dumb and blind.

Sincerely,

Pearl Lewis
