Defending champions Tiger Bay and former two-time winners Bent Street secured easy wins Thursday evening in the MVP Sports Futsal Championships at the National Gymnasium on Mandela Avenue.
Tiger Bay mauled Avocado Ballers 6-3. Randy Roberts bagged a double in the 21st and 28th minute whilst veteran defender Solomon Austin added two goals in the 22nd and 40th minute. Opening the score for the victor was Akil Plass in the eighth minute, while an own goal added to the score in the 25th minute.
For the losers, Jonathan McKenzie, Martin King, and Shane Thorne scored in the ninth, 36th and 37th minute respectively.
In another fixture, Bent Street walloped Team Spirit 10-0. Deon Alfred recorded a helmet trick in the 37th, 38th, 40th and 41st minute, while Colin Nelson registered a hat-trick in the seventh, eighth and 35th minute.
Adding a double in the 21st and 23rd minute was Adrian Aaron, while William Europe netted in the sixth minute.
Meanwhile, Gold is Money crushed Herstelling 6-0, and Sophia downed East Front Road 4-1.
The event continues today at the same venue. Stabroek Ballers will oppose Melanie at 19:45hrs, with Future Stars engaging Crane at 20:30hrs, and Vengy battling Swag Entertainment at 21:15hrs.
In the fourth contest, Albouystown will lock horns with Campbellville at 22:00hrs, while Back Circle opposes Vryheid’s Lust at 22:45hrs, and Sparta Boss takes aim at Channel-9 from 23:30hrs.
The competition will also feature a four-team female component. The competing teams are Santos, Fruta Conquerors, Guyana Defence Force, and Guyana Police Force. The resulting winner will pocket $200,000, while the second, third, and fourth-place finisher will receive $100,000, $50,000, and $20,000 respectively.
The other sponsors of the event include Magnum Tonic Wine, and Lucozade Energy Drink.
