E’quibo youths participate in inter-school rangoli

Students from six secondary schools in Region Two on Tuesday participated in the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha (GHDS) inter-school rangoli competition.

The competition was hosted by the Essequibo Coast Praant Dharmic Nawjawan and saw many students participating.

During the competition, team work and creativity were displayed through the colourful designs depicting the message behind the Hindu festival of lights. 

Copping the first place in the competition was the Abram Zuil Secondary School, with Johanna Cecilia Secondary, Charity Secondary, 8th of May Secondary, Anna Regina Secondary and Aurora Secondary, placing second to sixth.

The rangoli was judged based on depiction of the theme, description of the rangoli and interpretation, usage of colours, aesthetics skills and originality. 

Judges were very impressed with the skills displayed by participants, especially the usage of colours and intricate designs that were made by the youths. Chief Judge Charishma Naipaul Gopaul said that she was very impressed with the work put forward by the children and the designs were testimony that the youths did their research on the festival. 

President of the Essequibo Dharmic Nawjawaan Arvin Singh said that the activity is part of the GHDS calendar of events that is aimed at bringing the youths together. He said that he was happy to see the enthusiasm displayed by the youths during the competition. At the end of the event youths received trophies and certificates of participation.
