Cricket West Indies (CWI) president Ricky Skerritt says his organization will undergo a thorough post mortem of the recent performance of the T20 World Cup team’s performance but stopped short of saying whether there will be any casualties from the fall out.
The West Indis team, forced to play in the qualification tournament in order to get into the main draw, crashed out of the competition after losses to minnows Scotland and Ireland, although they did defeat Zimbabwe.
“I am deeply disappointed with the performance results of our team in Australia and I appreciate the sense of utter frustration that is being experienced by many,” said Skerritt in a statement posted on the CWI website.
“The ongoing inability of our batsmen to prevail over opposing slow bowling continued to be an obvious weakness in Australia, and untimely shot selections seem to be deeply embedded in the T20 batting culture of our senior team,” he added.
Competing in Group B of the qualifiers the West Indies team endfed at the bottom with a mere two points with Zimbabwe and Ireland qualifying while Scotland placed third with two points, defeating the West Indies in their head-to-head clash.
Skerritt said that there will be a full investigation.
“However I want to assure stakeholders that a thorough post mortem will be carried out in all aspects of our World Cup preparation and performance, and that solutions will be found in keeping with CWIs strategy to improve the quality and sustainability of cricket in all fronts, and in all formats. West Indies cricket is bigger than any one individual or event, and continues to need the input and support of all stakeholders,” he ended.
