Where are the Guyana Chess Federation’s (GCF) over-the-board tournaments? Especially those for the seniors? In May of this year, the seniors and juniors, men and women, played the National Chess Championships side by side. This was used as a measuring tool for justifying the names of a 2022 Chess Olympiad team. It was a marvellous tournament.
The Olympiad came and promised a lot for our participants. Regrettably, the May competition was the last of the GCF’s over-the-board tournaments coming into the final quarter of the year. One would have imagined that with the lifting of the COVID regulations, we would have witnessed a full return of over-the-bonard tournaments. But that was not the case. However, there is still time to refresh chess before Christmas and catapult it into the new year by hosting a tournament.
