Dear Editor,
Paying super-salaries to teachers will not necessarily lead to improvements in educational standards in Guyana. High quality teachers are not motivated by money. They are motivated by excelling in what they do and in seeing others excelling through their teaching and guidance.
A way forward is to reduce the class size in schools so that teachers can spend more time with individual pupils especially with those pupils who have fallen behind.
Teachers are not the ones who need to improve their performance as they are not sole educators.
Parents also need to spend the necessary time encouraging their child/children to do their best in their studies.
Yours faithfully,
Sean Ori
