Students receive high recognition for CSEC golf efforts 

Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Charles Ramson Jr on Friday presented Certificates of Historic Achievement to 110 students from Anna Regina Multilateral Secondary,  President’s College, Wisburg Secondary,  Friendship Secondary and Rosignol Secondary schools at Nexgen Golf Academy on Friday.

Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Charles Ramson Jr., on Friday presented Certificates of Historic Achievement to 110 students from Anna Regina Multilateral Secondary,  President’s College, Wisburg Secondary,  Friendship Secondary and Rosignol Secondary schools at the Nexgen Golf Academy.

Awards were also given to the teachers, coaches and several key members of the Ministry of Education Allied Arts Unit Ms. Barker-King and Kurt Braithwaite. 

Minister Ramson Jr., spoke about the extraordinary accomplishment by the pioneers.

“I love golf and I am here for two reasons today, one, to extend on behalf of the President and the government, our proudest congratulations to these pioneers whose place in Guyana’s history is now cemented, you will always be remembered as the ones who led the way.”

He added “And two to let you all know that the work done so far by Aleem (Hussain) and his team paves the way for greater expansion of this sport, which was considered to be just for the elite, and the government will put its resources to ensure that golf and all other sports are made available to every Guyanese.”

Minister Ramson Jr., received a complete set of professional golf clubs from the Nexgen Golf Academy which he committed to donating to one of the 2023 top students as a prize. 

Also in attendance and speaking at the ceremony were Dr. Ritesh Tularam on behalf of Minister Priya Manikchand, Kurt Braithwaite, former Prime Minister Hamilton Green, Deputy Mayor, Alfred Mentore, Linden’s Mayor Wanda Arrindell, Kashir Khan, Vic Oudit, and Noel Khan. 

Special recognition was given by the speakers to Hussain for his dedication and unwavering efforts to develop the sport over the past 18 months. Former Mayor Green and current Deputy Mayor Mentore singled out Hussain as being the driving force for the stage that golf has developed in Guyana and credited for the speed in which it has grown. 

Hussain thanked the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport and the supporters, sponsors and donors, Ms.Barker-King and Kurt Braithwaite and entire Ministry of Education team from the Minister, CEO, REDO’s, Head Teachers, PE Teachers, coaches and especially the students, who he credited with believing in the program and making a dream reality.
