I fully agree with Ramotar`s contention

Dear Editor,

I read Mr. Ramotar`s letter, to the Editor, of Oct. 23, 2022, in which he wrote: “One of the big difficulties in dealing with political issues Guyana is the unprincipled position which the opposition parties constantly take. They make agreements and frequently they renege on them.” I fully agree with Mr. Ramotar`s contention, but in doing so I cannot grant him the benefit of the doubt with regard to which are those opposition parties. The PPP was in opposition from 1964 to 1992 and 2015 to 2020.

His example, continuous registration, is quite inept. It is during the PPP`s term in office that GECOM and the Parliament failed to initiate legislation for continuous registration, in the form that he purports had been agreed. In fact, much of what had been agreed, in the constitution reform process, was never revisited or implemented. The most glaring example is the electoral system, and the constituency element in particular.

Sincerely,

Vincent Alexander
