Make that a handful of straight wins for star rider Jamual John.
The Team Foundation product pedaled to his second win in two days and his fifth consecutive first place finish on the local circuit when the Flying Stars Cycle Club staged its 50th anniversary programme Monday in the National Park.
One day after winning the feature 16-lap criterium event of the Randolph ‘Duckie’ Memorial outside the Park, John took his talents inside the ‘Mecca’ of local cycling and continued his heroics.
His win in 1:22.24s for the 36-lap race was however overshadowed by huge crash about 300m from the finish which involved many members of the peloton as the wheelsmen barreled to the tape.
In an anti-climax of an otherwise exciting day of racing, John, who avoided the crash by starting the sprint, tamely crossed the line ahead of Kemuel Moses and Marlon Williams who joined him on the podium.
Walter Grant-Stuart, Sherwin Sampson and Kwame Ridley came from way behind to fill out the top six remaining positions as John’s other breakaway mates were unable to finish after a huge pile up with some cyclists ending up in the manatee pond.
Fortunately, an ambulance with EMTs was present to assist those who were in need of medical attention.
Prior to the feature event, Talim Shaw got the better of Bruce Camacho in a match sprint to win the veteran over-50 event. Shaw, who also won the category a day earlier, was then selected as the Flying Stars Cycling Club rider of weekend and was presented with a Gift Voucher from Quality Medical Lab.
Other winner’s Monday included: Lennox Sampson (BMX), Ajani Cutting (juveniles), Sherwin Sampson (junior), and Williams (Veteran U-50).
Monday’s fixture was sponsored by the Rutherford family, Colin Chichester, Winslow Richmond, Kevin Jeffrey and Quality Medical Lab. (Emmerson Campbell)
