Hard to understand how come Charrandass’s matter is only now being made public

Dear Editor,

Another embarrassment for the Government, following on the heels of the other embarrassment only a week ago, this time in the diplomat sphere, of an incident over a year ago.  It is hard to understand how come this disgusting matter is only now being made public and the late response by the responsible ministry?

The seemingly callous response to the alleged offensive words has ‘not been substantiated and ‘therefore considers this matter closed’ does little to engender this matter is indeed closed.  It will not go away.  Guyana is daily trying to enforce policies against violence, particularly against women. To allegedly have one of our own guilty of this misdemeanor makes our efforts weak.

The wrath and ire unleashed creates the impression there is more in the mortar than just the pestle.  How much more we may never know.  It is hoped better care and attention is given to persons being considered for diplomatic postings that they are of the ilk and material of some of their predecessors, such as Rudy Insanally to name one.

Sincerely,

Shamshun Mohamed
