Tourism in Region Two is set for a boost this weekend with the hosting of the biggest Agro Trade Fair and Expo slated for October 28 and 29 at the Anna Regina Community Centre Ground.
The expo is being hosted by the Essequibo Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ECCI) and to date 70 booths have been booked.
President of ECCI, Suean Seewnarayan, has assured that everything is set for the hosting of the expo this weekend. She noted that it is being held at a time when businesses are still grappling with the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Seewnarayan explained that the expo will provide networking opportunities for both regional and international businesses.
“Persons can come out and interact and network with the different agencies, there will also be top security so persons can feel safe when coming out.”
Secretary of ECCI, Vierna Rasheed, disclosed that so far, 70 booths have been booked by various agencies, ago-processors, manufacturers and craft artisans. She mentioned that members are in the process of erecting booths for the grand opening today.
“We urge persons to come out and support the ECCI event, the event is $1,000 for adults and $500 for children and persons can expect to see many businesses onboard.”
Rasheed also said that local businesses in Region Two have experienced a boost, especially the hospitality sector. She noted that the expo provides spin-off economic benefits for local businesses in the region.
Meanwhile Stabroek News checked with several hotels in the region and confirmed that they all are fully booked for this weekend. Many of the hotel owners related that bookings for this weekend were done two weeks ago.
