Guyana has made significant progress in reducing the gender gap in politics, education, health and economics, according to the 2022 Global Gender Gap Index.
Guyana was previously placed at the 53rd position of 146 countries. According to the latest report, Guyana is now ranked at 35. This is based on an analysis of countries’ national gender gaps on economic, political, education and health matters.
Regionally, Guyana places 6th out of the 22 countries examined in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) and is among three countries – Peru and Chile – to have improved their gender parity score the most.
In a specific evaluation for health and survival, Guyana is among 27 countries to place at the number one spot. However, Guyana is ranked at 53 for economic participation, 57 for educational attainment, and 42 for political empowerment.
Meanwhile, parity has increased among workers in senior roles by at least 10 percentage points in Guyana.
