Guyana has been listed as a top destination to visit in 2023 and beyond by National Geographic United Kingdom’s “Traveller Best of the World List.” The revelation was made in an article which listed 35 countries to visit in the new year.

The article describes Guyana as a destination, which packs a big punch for nature lovers with thick rainforest, sprawling savannahs, magical mountain ranges and epic rivers.

“Guyana may be one of South America’s smaller nations, but it packs a big punch for nature-lovers. Go to get truly off grid. Similar in size to the UK, Guyana is home to fewer than a million people and river, off-road or air transport are often the only routes into the heart of it all,” the article said.

It expanded, highlighting Guyana’s natural wonders. “Natural highlights range from jaguars stalking dense forests to giant anteaters on the savannahs, harpy eagles in the skies and wow moments like Kaieteur Falls, one of the world’s highest single-drop waterfalls (and twice as high as Victoria Falls).  The number of eco-tourism experiences and community-run lodges is growing…,” it stated.

Guyana was listed at number 13 in the Nature category, which also featured the Scottish Highlands, Slovenia, Big Bend National Park in Texas, USA, the Azores, Botswana and Tanzania.

Guyana being listed as a top destination is expected to drive tourism here from Europe with British Airways slated to commence flights in March 2023.

This is not the first time Guyana has been recognised for its pristine nature and adventure tourism experiences by National Geographic Magazine. Most recently, Guyana was featured on the cover of the magazine in April.
