Defending champions and two-time winners Melanie-B were among the teams clinching quarterfinal berths when the Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ East Coast Demerara zone commenced  Friday evening at the Haslington Tarmac.

The holders did not disappoint the mammoth crowd which descended on the venue following a two-year hiatus, defeating newcomer Portmore 2-0. The duo of Jermaine Gustav and Philip Williams found the back of the net in the 12th and 14th minute respectively.

Meanwhile, Liliendaal Hustlers, Old School, Beterverwagting (BV)-A, and Non Pareil also secured places in the final eight.

Liliendaal Hustlers dismissed home side Haslington 3-0. Pernell Schultz recorded a brace in the sixth and ninth minute respectively while Raushan Ritch added to the score in the seventh minute.

Similarly, Old School brushed aside Uprising 5-1. Jahall Greaves tallied ‘Guinness Goals’ [a goal scored in the final three minutes counts as two], in the 19th and 20th minute while Travis Martin etched his name on the scorer’s sheet in the 14th minute.

For the losers, Shawn Adonis scored in the 16th minute.

Andrew Murray Jnr., was the goal scorer when Non Pareil edged Buxton Diamond 1-0. He netted in the eighth minute while  BV squeaked past Bare Root 4-3. Dexroy Deen registered a double in the second and ninth minute while Akin Curry and Tyrice Dennis scored in the 11th and 14th minute apiece.

For Bare Root, Jamal Inniss recorded a double in the 17th and 18th alongside a Dequan France conversion in the 13th minute.

Over $450,000 in cash and prizes are up for grabs in the three-day tournament. The final will be staged at the same venue on November 5th.
