(Trinidad Guardian) The country’s murder toll climbed to 504 yesterday afternoon after four men were killed in three separate incidents in Morvant, St Helena and Marabella.
Police said in an early morning incident on Sunday, Akil “Croc” Nesbit, 36, and Ruben Sabarbruce, 27, were shot in the car park of the Safe Landing Bar, Caroni South Bank Road, St Helena, Piarco. The two men lived at Sub-Station Trace, Oropune Gardens, Piarco. A third man, of the same address, was shot in the groin and chest.
Officers from the Caroni Police Station, who were on mobile patrol along Caroni South Bank Road, around 4.10 am, heard gunshots and saw people running along the road near High Style Bar.
They found a Toyota Corolla at the Safe Landing Bar car park with multiple bullet holes and Nesbit, who had been seated in the driver’s seat, slumped backwards. He had been shot several times and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sabarbruce was found lying on the ground on the left side of the car, suffering from gunshot injuries, while the third victim was found seated on the back seat, suffering from gunshot wounds.
Both Sabarbruce and the third victim were taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, where Sabarbruce was pronounced dead at 4.26 am.
Eye-witnesses said gunmen fired upon the trio as they exited the establishment, and were about to enter their car.
In the third killing, the Morvant victim was fatally shot after he and several others were fired upon by unknown gunmen on Saturday night minutes after they shouted at a motorist to dim his lights.
Kareem Quashie, 30, of Almond Drive, Morvant and several other men from the neighbourhood were said to have been sitting on plastic chairs along Almond Drive around 9.15 pm when a car turned onto the street and the driver switched on bright headlights.
They reportedly shouted to him to dim the lights, following which two occupants in the car began shooting at the group.
As the group ran off, the two gunmen exited and pursued Quashie, whom they continued shooting at before they re-entered the vehicle and sped off.
Meanwhile, a Marabella man is dead after being shot multiple times.
Police said around 2.35 pm on Sunday, they responded to a report that gunshots had been fired at New Haven Avenue, Marabella. When they responded, they found Nicholas Gajadhar, 32, of Monty Street,lying on the road, bleeding. He died around 3.35 pm at the San Fernando General, Hospital while being treated for gunshot wounds to the chest, abdomen, upper arm and face.
