Malteenoes’ Stephan Browne took nine wickets against Everest Cricket Club as the two teams battled to a draw in the Georgetown Cricket Association GISE/Star Party Rentals/Trophy Stall two-day first-division tournament over the weekend.
Malteenoes won the toss and opted to bat first with just a session and a half of play possible on day one.
They reached 187 all out in 50 overs while Everest responded with 205 all out in 56 overs. Malteenoes then reached 61 for two by close of play in their second innings.
Everest’s innings was kept under wraps by Browne who returned
9-43 in 20 overs, four of which were maidens. Richie Looknauth top scored with 45 after hitting six boundaries.
Joseph Perry struck two fours and two sixes on his way to 33 while Matthew Nandu chipped in with 30.
Akshaya Persaud and Natyanand Mathura each made 25 while Troy Gonsalves produced 16.
In Malteenoes’ first innings, Shemroy Barrington top scored with 61. His innings featured three sixes and seven fours.
After Chris Harry removed Browne in the third over, Barrington added 95 for the second wicket with Collis Rimple who made 46 before being bowled by Looknauth.
Shaquille Williams supported with 36 before he was also bowled by Looknauth, who picked up 6-45 in 14 overs. Dambuka Junior was the only other batsman to reach double figures, scoring 19 not out. Nandu returned to pick up 2-7 in six overs.
In Malteenoes’ second innings, Jeremiah Scott made 28 while Brown made 21 before both were dismissed by Looknauth who ended with match figures of 8-60.
