The trial of photographer Keron Bruce who was earlier in this year charged with a cybercrime against a reporter is scheduled to commence on November 7 at the Diamond/Grove Magistrate’s Court.
It had initially been set for June 9, but was later postponed to September 6. The date has now been set for November 7 as Bruce’s attorney, Bernard DaSilva, raised concerns about the duration of the matter.
During the period, the cybercrime matter was being called before two magistrates, Magistrate Sunil Scarce and Magistrate Judy Latchman. However, the trial is expected to commence before Magistrate Scarce.
On April 8, a cybercrime charge was brought against Bruce of Soesdyke Back Road, East Bank Demerara (EBD) by Leroy Smith. The allegation had stated that on January 25 at Soesdyke, EBD, the defendant used a computer system to disseminate information about Smith, knowing it to be false and which subjects Smith to public ridicule, contempt, hatred, or embarrassment.
The photographer who had initially appeared before Magistrate Scarce had pleaded not guilty to the charge and was released on $100,000 bail.
