Albert Rajram, the man who stole a quantity of items from a private aircraft at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA), Timehri was today sentenced to three years imprisonment after he admitted to committing the crime.
Rajram also known as ‘Bunny’ of Circuit Road, Timehri appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Diamond/Grove Magistrate’s Court Two.
He pleaded guilty to two counts of break and enter and larceny. Rajram was sentenced to 36 months imprisonment on each charge. The sentences will run concurrently.
Police on Monday arrested Rajram in relation to the crime which took place sometime between Wednesday, October 26 and Friday, October 28.
He was questioned during which he reportedly confessed to committing the crime.
The stolen items which include alcoholic beverages and electronic items were also recovered.
Stabroek News was informed that Rajram told the police that he dug a hole under the perimeter fence of CJIA and made his way onto the airport tarmac.
Once he had penetrated the perimeter fence he then broke into the aircraft and stole the items.
Reports are that the aircraft bearing registration number N111RE arrived here last Wednesday afternoon. It parked close to the Guyana Defence Force Air Corps.
This newspaper was told that when the pilots returned last Friday to prepare the flight for takeoff, they discovered that there was a breach to the main door of the aircraft.
An alarm was immediately raised and a search was carried out during which the items were discovered missing.
The aircraft departed Guyana for Texas, USA on Friday. It flew officials from an international company here to attend a meeting.
