The Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development has planned a nationwide clean-up exercise for November 12, beginning at 6 am. The ministry is inviting interested Guyanese to positively contribute to the beautification of their environment, surroundings and neighbourhoods.
According to the release, the nationwide clean-up exercise is being organised by a National Enhancement Committee. The Ministry of Local Government, which holds responsibility for the 10 regions, will coordinate the cleanup activity through the Regional Democratic Councils (RDCs), the Municipalities, the Neighbourhood Democratic Councils (NDCs) and the Community Development Councils (CDCs) with assistance from the private sector, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and the joint services along with national and non-national volunteers.
The Ministry, according to the release, has under its purview, 10 regions, 70 NDCs, 10 Municipalities and over 100 CDCs. The Community Enhancement Workers (CEWs) will also be integrally involved in this initiative. A ‘reconnaissance’ activity will be conducted today by all Regional Executive Officers, Chairpersons, Town Clerks and Overseers in an effort to identify priority areas ahead of time and allocate resources for the execution of these tasks in the particular area.
The ministry/organizing committee is encouraging all individuals, resident in Guyana, to participate in this nationwide activity to ensure the environment remains clean and healthy. The ministry’s press release said that Minister of Local Government and Regional Development, Nigel Dharamlall, will be leading the regional bodies in this exercise.
