Stabroek Business has learnt that the currently dormant local Chapter of the Women’s Entrepreneurial Network of the Caribbean (WENC) will shortly be seeking to reinvent itself with a view to helping to provide leadership to the continually growing entrepreneurial community as it seeks to broaden the base of the range of opportunities available for the creation and growth of women-led businesses.

The initiative to pursue the resuscitation and rebranding of the organisation is being undertaken by previous members including past executive members, who will be seeking to recruit other women leaders in the business community in an effort to create a relevant agenda that will serve as a guide for the future direction of the organisation.

WENC was launched with much aplomb by the then United States President Barack Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in April 2022 as part of Women’s Entrepreneurship (WE Americas) initiative that emerged during the April 2012 Summit of the Americas. The stated objective of the initiative was to grow the extent of local participation in the economic life of the region by reducing barriers that hinder access by women to launching and growing small and medium-sized enterprises.

Stabroek Business understands that the organisers of the event to mark the resuscitation of WENC will be seeking to both rekindle the interest of previous members as well as to bring ‘new blood’ into the grouping to take account of the more prominent role that women now play in the country’s business sector.
