Two teenagers who were arraigned in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court have both been remanded to prison after they were jointly charged with felonious wounding.
The 18-year-olds: Marvin Blair also called ‘Shake Sear’ of Tucville, Georgetown and Napolian Neblette, of North Ruimveldt both appeared on Wednesday before Principal Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus who read the indictable charge to them.
The joint charge alleges that the teens on October 23 at South Ruimveldt, unlawfully and maliciously wounded Ivelaw Downer with intent to maim, disfigure, or cause him actual bodily harm. They were not required to plead to the charge.
Neblette was charged alone the previous week for the same matter but the prosecutor on Wednesday asked for the charge to be withdrawn and for him to be jointly charged with Blair.
Meanwhile, when given the opportunity by the Magistrate to explain himself, Blair, who has a pending attempted murder matter in court, said that he never stabbed Downer but it was Downer who stabbed him four times about his body.
Blair, who was visibly injured and in pain from a wound in his chest, said that although he had reported that he was stabbed by the virtual complainant, the police never “look into the matter” and “never went to check for the video footage,” which he said is available.
Given a chance to explain himself, Neblette who appeared virtually via zoom also denied stabbing Downer.
Upon hearing their explanations, the prosecutor objected to bail for both defendants, especially for Blair, on the grounds that he was in hiding since the incident, and also due to the nature of the offence and the serious injuries that Downer had sustained. It was said that Blair was charged earlier this year with attempted murder.
Magistrate Isaacs-Marcus denied the duo bail and remanded them to prison. The matter was then adjourned until December 7.
