An Eccles man died after he was struck down yesterday morning on a pedestrian crossing along the Agricola Public Road.
According to a report from the Guyana Police Force, the victim is 66-year-old Imtiaz Ishahack. The statement said the accident occurred around 8.10 am in the vicinity of the Agricola Post Office\ Police Outpost and involved motorcar, PYY 1162, driven by a 50-year-old man from Yarrowkabra, Soesdyke/Linden Highway.
The statement said that the motorcar was proceeding north along the Agricola Public Road’s western carriageway. The statement continued that Ishahack was on the pedestrian crossing on the said carriageway walking in an easterly direction. According to the police, the driver of motorcar PYY 1162 claimed that Ishahack walked into his path without looking and as a result the front left of the vehicle hit the man pitching him into the air.
Ishahack suffered injuries to his head and about his body, and at about 8.41 am, was pronounced dead on the scene by an Emergency Medical Technician. His body is at the Georgetown Public Hospital mortuary awaiting a post mortem examination. The police said that a breathalyzer test was conducted on the driver of the vehicle but no trace of alcohol was found. The driver is currently in custody assisting police with their investigations.
