Thirty-five-year-old Rudolph Williams who went into a woman’s house and raped her while she slept, is now awaiting sentencing after a jury unanimously convicted him of the crime yesterday afternoon.
Following hours of deliberations, the 12-member panel returned with its unanimous verdict, finding Williams guilty as charged of raping the 22-year-old woman between September 29th and 30th of last year.
Justice Sandil Kissoon who presided over the trial has deferred sentencing to December 5th to first hear from probation and other social impact reports.
The case for the prosecution is that sometime between the period mentioned, Williams unlawfully entered the young woman’s home where he raped her while she was asleep in her bed.
The State was represented by State Counsel Cicelia Corbin, Caressa Henry and Marisa Edwards.
The trial proceedings were held in-camera at the Sexual Offences Court of the High Court in Demerara.
