Chirstianburg/Wismar romps to GuyOil/Tradewind Tankers League C/ships

Christianburg/Wismar captured the GuyOil/Tradewind Tankers U18 Secondary Schools Football League after defeating Golden Grove 3-1 in the final match of the event Sunday at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue.

The Linden unit only needed a draw to secure the championships but romped to the title in an emphatic manner following goals from Kelvin Hintzen, Demoll Warner and Lamar Jules in the seventh, 34th and 68th minute respectively. On target in the loss was Omarion Burrowes in the 69th minute.

Christianburg/Wismar earned $500,000 towards a school project and the championship trophy after ending the league on 18 points while Golden Grove received $300,000 towards a school initiative and the respective accolade for ending in second place on 14 points.

In the earlier match, President’s College and Cummings Lodge battled to a 1-1 draw. Fabian Figueria opened the scoring for Cummings Lodge in the 37th minute only for Michael Joseph to equalise in the 60th minute.

President’s College finished in third place on 12 points and received $200,000 towards a school project and a trophy while Dolphin Secondary finished fourth place with 11 points, one point ahead of Cummings Lodge to claim $100,000 towards a school programme.

On the individual side,  captain Kelvin Hintzen of Christianburg/Wismar was adjudged the Most Valuable Player while teammate Jamil James copped the Best Goalkeeper title. Jequan Cole of Dolphin Secondary walked away with the highest goalscorer accolade with 10 conversions. The trio received gift cards from MVP Sports.
