The male and female teams led by Kellon Reid and Semonica Duke dominated the RX CrossFit competition of the Guyana Fitness Games on Sunday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
In an eye catching and praiseworthy display of strength, stamina, skill and mental fortitude, Reid, 33, and his 24-year-old Fitness Addicts teammate, Omissi Williams, amassed 400 points to best two other teams and pocket the $200,000 first prize.
The Surinamese ‘Rock CrossFit’ team of Anis Ade Thomas and Mark Tawjoeram finished second with 375 points, good for $150,000.
Randolph Leitch and Timothy McAndrew rounded out the top three with 365 points and took home $100,000.Some of the events included deadlifts, rows, skipping, box-jumps, kettle bell swings, walking lunges, hand stands and overhead squats.
Meanwhile, fitness star, Duke teamed up with her Genesis Fitness Express Gym mate, Tonnica Archer, to take the spoils in the female segment. Dubbed the ‘Green Machine’ the fierce, competitive duo transformed into robot mode and dominated their competition, racking up 400 points also compared to the teams of Delice Adonis and Keisha Abrigo (375 points) and Kim Pinas and Dianthy Asmoredjo (360 points) of Suriname. Shenicka Estwick and Corvin Sealy were awarded the male and female winning trophies in the Scaled category.
In front of a sizable crowd at the venue, the gladiators laid it all on the line with blood, sweat and tears and displayed superb sportsmanship and camaraderie.
Back from a two-year hiatus, the sixth edition of the Fitness Games was dubbed a success by the organizers.
