Everest Cricket Club strokemaker, Akshaya Persaud, is set to replace Tagenarine Chanderpaul in the Guyana Harpy Eagles squad for the currently ongoing CG Insurance Super50.
This was announced yesterday by the Guyana Cricket Board’s (GCB) senior selection panel, which is led by Ravindranauth Seeram as Chanderpaul is set to fly to Australia where he is part of the West Indies Test squad.
The left-hander, who is currently with the team in Trinidad and Tobago made his List A debut in 2019 where he turned out for Combined Colleges and Campuses and has played eight matches, scoring two half centuries. He also bagged five wickets with his left arm spin. Persaud has also featured in five First Class matches.
Persaud, who hails from Cornelia Ida, West Demerara, will join the side for the remaining Zone A matches against Trinidad and Tobago Red Force (November 9) and Combined College and Campuses (November 12).
Eagles are currently at the top of the Zone A with three wins from four matches, giving them 12 points while Red Force and the Windward Islands Volcanoes are on 10 and eight points respectively.
Meanwhile, Chanderpaul who is the son of Shivnarine Chanderpaul, who was recently inducted to the ICC Hall of Fame, will join West Indies ahead of their two three-day practice matches against from November 17-19 and 23-26.
The left-handed opener has scored 118 runs from four Super50 matches with a best score of 48.
