A Corriverton family yesterday laid their loved one to rest after he succumbed to injuries sustained during an accident three Saturdays ago along the Number 75 Village, Corentyne Public Road.
Aftar Wazidally, 21, of Lot 67 Scottsburg Village, Corentyne, succumbed at the Georgetown Public Hospital on Monday around 1.30 pm.
According to information gathered, on October 22nd, around 7.45 am along the Number 75 Public Road, Wazidally was driving motor car PWW 5659, while motor car PPP 8156 was being driven by Mary Ann Lionel, 21, of Lot 164 Section A Number 71 Village, Corentyne. Wazidally is alleged to have run into Lionel’s vehicle.
Based on information gathered, Wazidally was proceeding north along the western drive lane allegedly at a fast rate and overtook three vehicles and lost control. His vehicle then collided with the front portion of Lionel’s car.
As a result of the collision, both drivers suffered injuries about their bodies and were picked up by public-spirited residents in a conscious state. They were rushed to the Skeldon Public Hospital.
Initially, both were transferred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, however, Wazidally was eventually sent to the Georgetown Public Hospital. He reportedly sustained major injuries to his chest and other parts of his body.
Stabroek News was told, that Lionel remains hospitalized in a stable condition.
Traffic officers in Berbice have since launched an investigation into the collision.
