One Guyana President’s Cup part of Government’s sport developmental plan

On the eve of the start of the inaugural One Guyana President’s Cup today amongst the 10 administrative regions, President Irfaan Ali stated that the event is part of the government’s plan to integrate sports into the national existence.

Speaking at a meeting held at State House yesterday which featured several stakeholders inclusive of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF), Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, the National Sports Commission, and the Kashif and Shanghai Organization, Ali said, “One Guyana is not only about unifying people, it is how do we bring together all dimensions of our society into building a One Guyana, one country, and sport is an important part of that.”

The tournament, which is being administered by the GFF, will commence with the intra-administrative region phase on Sunday. Upon the conclusion of the aforesaid section, 10 regional teams will progress to the main tournament which is penciled to conclude on January 1st. The complete format or fixtures for the tournament was not disclosed.
