Dear Editor,
I am attaching two pictures detailing the present condition of a bridge and eroded 4 cornered road shoulders. These were taken on Friday morning. The bridge, popularly called 4th Bridge and road lie within the New Plantation Housing Scheme, Herstelling. The road is a southward continuum from that very 4th bridge. As can be noticed, some wooden planks of the bridge have already loosened from their underlying beams, others seem ready to go. The rail (on the left) is also leaning, parts semi-detached. The 4 cornered road has deep cavities and both pedestrian and vehicular traffic requires extreme caution.
The condition of both road and bridge are the direct result of a deliberate policy that diverted heavily sand and earth-laden trucks away from the new Diamond-Herstelling bitumen covered bridge. Hence, all trucks that are commercially bound to deliver on building materials within the New Plantation Housing Scheme and within the northern boundary of the Farm community must use the wooden 4th bridge. The shoulders of the road captured were also caused by trucks that were navigating away from an overhead barrier that has since been removed. Trucks still do continue to access and exit their destinations from both road and bridge.
Sincerely,
Rohan Sagar
