Ann’s Grove and Den Amstel secured their paths to the quarterfinals following contrasting wins in the Rosignol United Football Club coordinated ‘U23 Drew Cup’ Championship at the Rosignol Community ground.
Ann’s Grove made light work of Hopetown United Rangers winning 5-0. It was a thoroughly lopsided encounter as two conversions in the first half preceded a three-goal blitz in the second stanza by the East Coast Demerara outfit.
The trio of Shemar Beckles, Younce Francis, and Isaiah Barry did the damage for Ann’s Grove. Beckles found the back of the net in the 25th and 44th minute while Francis etched his name on the scorer’s sheet in the 38th and 56th minute. Adding his conversion in the 65th minute was Barry.
Meanwhile, West Demerara outfit Den Amstel overcame Georgetown unit Fruta Conquerors 1-0. Following a scoreless first half, Manuel Morris recorded the only conversion to eliminate the Tucville-based giant in the 58th-minute. The tournament is penciled in to resume on Sunday at the same venue with the quarterfinals.
