Embattled president of the Guyana Chess federation (GCF) Frankie Farley has been elected a member of FIDE’s Global Strategy Commission.
This is according to the world chess body’s website.
“FIDE is excited to announce the composition of the Commissions for the period 2022-2026,” the website stated.
“The role of the FIDE Commissions is crucial in servicing federations, improving our technical capacity, and accomplishing FIDE social goals,” it added.
FIDE has also named several other commissions including an Athletes Commission, Chess in Education Commission and a Medical Commission among others.
The Chair of the Global Strategy Commission is Emil Sutovsky and the Secretary is Pavel. V. Tregubov.
Bassem Amin, Kenneth Rogoff, Yifan Hou and Jeroen Van den Berg are the Councillors while Farley, Morten Madsen, Malcolm Pein, KK Chan and Philip Ameku are the other members.
Farley is currently embroiled in a dispute with his executive board some of whom moved a no confidence motion against him and installed his vice president as the new president.
The matter has gone to FIDE for their ruling.
