Citizens have doubled down on their pride in Guyanese-British actress Letitia Wright since the release of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever earlier this month in which she reprised the role Princess Shuri, which she had played in the original Black Panther.

President Irfaan Ali has even written her a letter, dated November 15, 2022, congratulating her for “resounding success as an actress both on television and in your highly acclaimed role in the Black Panther movie and its sequel.”

In his letter, the president referred to an interview Letitia did in which she mentioned Guyana and how much she wanted to make its people proud. (In fact, Letitia Wright did a series of interviews in 2018 when the first Black Panther film was released, during which she spoke fondly of Guyana.)  The president’s letter said: “I would like to extend an invitation to you to visit Guyana. The government of Guyana would be honoured to host you…”  The 29-year-old Guyanese-British actress has appeared in numerous other films including Avengers Infinity War, Avengers Endgame, Ready Player One and Death On The Nile.

And Guyanese have even more to celebrate as it relates to the Black Panther move as another Guyanese, Shaunette Renée Wilson, said to be from Linden, also appears in the movie. Wilson.  a Guyanese-born American actress, is best known for four seasons in the role of Dr. Mina Okafor in the Amy Holden Jones-created Fox series The Resident.
