Twenty-nine-year-old Savina Sukhnandan, of New Road, Charity in Region Two, recently opened her own natural beauty products business with the main intention of boosting women’s self-confidence.
Speaking with Stabroek Weekend, Sukhnanden shared that after giving birth to her son Aiden and her daughter Liliana, her skin started to develop dark spots, stretch marks and other pigmentation issues.
As a result, she devoted her time to conducting research online on how to tackle the pigmentation issue, including the usage of natural remedies to get rid of hyper-pigmentation from the skin. After months of research, she finally made the finished products of several natural skincare treatments that when combined would enhance the appearance of the skin.
The mother of two now operates “Lilly’s Organic” at Lot 41-42 New Road, Essequibo Coast. She said that she chose to name her business after her daughter by cutting the usual tradition that says that businesses have to be passed on to sons.
Sukhnandan started her business on April 8, 2022 after she started to use the products and experienced that her skin tone was changing.
“I am currently working on my products so they can become household names and women can use them and boost their self-confidence,” she confidently stated. She explained that she made use of YouTube and after coming across one video that spoke of the importance of carrot oil in rectifying skin tone, she began to gather carrots and other ingredients and set about making her own products.
“I saw the importance of carrot oil. I saw how it is made so I made it and started to use it on my skin. After weeks I have seen the results and my skin was looking amazing I then decided that I wanted to do it as a business and share the products with other women.”
The young entrepreneur is creating exotic herbal remedies using orange peel, hibiscus, rosemary, carrots, turmeric, and essential oils to create glowing skincare products.
“Having used the products and I saw tremendous improvements in my own skin I decided to put together turmeric, sugar and other ingredients to make a face and body scrub. This is becoming famous and it helped with dark spots, sun burns and eczema and is best paired with carrot oil.”
The businesswoman continued to make other products by incorporating natural ingredients around her. Relatives and friends saw the improvements in her skin and also started to use the products, and they also saw improvements. After gaining positive reviews Sukhnandan decided to market her products, so she made five pieces of her natural and organic products and sold them to her friends who operate salons.
After customers used her products they encouraged her to expand her business and her husband, Balram Sukhnandan, owner of Platinum Group, also encouraged her to expand. She started out by making ten products which she sold to several locations on the Essequibo Coast. These included scrubs, oils, creams, body butter, hair oil, hair mask and yoni.
The young woman is currently working on boosting her business in terms of advertisements and intends to spread her products across Guyana. Sukhnandan is encouraging persons to purchase her products since they are made with high quality from naturally produced plants.
“I am touting that healthy glowing skin can be achieved without using harsh and harmful chemicals on your skin. My products are natural and I do encourage persons to purchase them.”
