Central Mackenzie overcame a one goal deficit and a numerical handicap, to defeat South Amelia’s Ward 2-1 yesterday in the Region #10 zone of the ‘One Guyana President’s Cup’ Football Championship at the Wisburg Secondary School ground.
In what can be described as the only noteworthy moment of the first half, Central Mackenzie incurred a numeral handicap after Andre Mayers was issued with a red card in the 13th minute, receiving his second yellow card for dissent.
South Amelia’s Ward eventually capitalised on their numerical advantage, as they broke the deadlock in the 78th minute. Awarded a penalty kick following an infraction inside the box, Shomal Jordan, who was tasked with the responsibility, made no mistake from the distance, as he fired his effort past the goalkeeper into the right side.
However, the lead proved to be short-lived as utility man Kenard Simon equalised in an identical manner, after being awarded a penalty kick. The diminutive Simon, slammed his effort into the left corner, giving the goalkeeper no chance.
