Two teenagers were yesterday arrested for assaulting a Berbice police officer who was at the time performing duties at a pedestrian crossing on Republic Road New Amsterdam around 8 am.
According to information gathered, Police Constable, Fredricks was at the location performing duties yesterday morning when he gave “lawful traffic instructions and directions” which the suspects failed to comply with. This then led to an argument and then a scuffle during which the lawman was assaulted.
Quincy King, 18, and Christopher Abrams, 19, are expected to be charged with multiple offences including assaulting a peace officer, the police noted yesterday. “They jointly attacked and assaulted a police officer who was on duty at the time and providing them with lawful traffic instructions and directions which they failed to comply with”, the statement explained.
According to the statement, “The policeman after being knocked to the ground was forced to get on his feet and defend himself from an aggressive and abusive Abrams who is seen in a video assaulting the cop.”
Stabroek News was told, that the police constable was yesterday required to seek medical attention.
