The three men who were allegedly intercepted with $5 million worth of ganja by the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) were on Tuesday remanded to prison after they were read a drug trafficking charge.
Eighteen-year-old Jeremiah Smith, 42-year-old Damion Hinds and Stuart Hamer, 64, were all arraigned in the Mibicuri Magistrate’s Court where they appeared before Magistrate Alex Moore who read the charge to them.
The charge alleges that on November 17th at #78 Village, Springlands, Corentyne, Berbice, they trafficked narcotics, that is to say 40 kilogrammes of cannabis.
The three men pleaded not guilty to the charge. Magistrate Moore refused bail and as such they were all remanded to prison.
The matter was then adjourned until January 17th, 2023 and was transferred to the Springlands Magistrate’s Court where it will be called again.
