The Diamond Mineral Water International Indoor Hockey Festival, which is in its 18th iteration, was officially launched yesterday at the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) Ground, Bourda.
The tournament, which is slated to run from December 1st-4th at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall on Homestretch Avenue, will feature local and regional teams in the form of Trinidad and Tobago clubs competing in four divisions. They are the Men’s, Women’s, and Veterans over 35, with the Veterans over 45 division making its debut at the competition.
Winner of the Men’s and Women’s section will walk away with US$2500 each, with the respective runners-up receiving US$1000. The eventual victors of the Veterans over 35 and Over 45 divisions will pocket US$1000. The regional teams that have confirmed their participation are: Queens Park, Police Hockey Club, and George United.
Tricia Fiedtkou, Vice-President of the Guyana Hockey Board (GHB), stated that the excitement surrounding the staging of the tournament following a two-year absence due to the Covid-19 pandemic, cannot be overstated, adding that DDL under its Diamond Mineral Water brand has been synonymous with quality hockey and is directly responsible for aiding in the development of the tournament. She further thanked the newest sponsors, TLC Guyana, and Banks DIH Limited under its Guinness Brand, for partnering with the association. Meanwhile, Larry Wills, Diamond Mineral Water Brand Manager stated that the company is happy to be a part of the tournament, adding that the entity believes in developmental programmes and is committed to the long term sustenance of the initiative.
Wills further stated that he envisions a quality tournament, which has been a hallmark of previous editions.
Kristhoff Henry, Commercial Manager of TLC Guyana, the newest sponsor in the event, stated that the company recognizes the importance of the tournament and commitment of the GHB in continuing this prestigious championship, adding that he is looking forward to a competitive event.
Banks DIH Limited Communications Director, Troy Peters, said that the company is extremely delighted to be a feature of the prestigious championship, adding that the Guinness Brand has been exploring new frontiers in improving and expanding its sports sponsorship portfolio.
