Kurt Singh, who was charged with stealing over $6 million in beverages last week, was on Wednesday released on $200,000 bail.

Singh, 34, of Lot 143 Fifth Street, Alberttown, Georgetown, made his second court appearance before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in a virtual hearing.

In a bail application, the man’s lawyer told the Chief Magistrate that he is a single father and has two minor children at home. The attorney noted that since her client was on remand his children had to leave the home to dwell with other family members.

Bail was eventually granted in the sum of $200,000 and the matter was adjourned until November 30th.

The charge that was read to him on November 16 states that while being in the company of others, Singh broke and entered the bar of Tony Ramcharran on October 28 at Fifth Street Alberttown and stole an LG 65-inch television valued at $300,000, four cases of Magnum worth $34,000, four cases of XL worth $16,000, six cases of Rude Boy valued $60,000, two cases of Smirnoff vodka valued $17,400, four bottles of Cîroc vodka worth $14,000, twelve bottles of Absolute vodka valued at $102,000, six bottles Hennessy cognac worth $36,000, 23 small bottles of rum worth $46,000, and 79 packets of cigarettes worth 24,840.

The police had noted that Singh is known to Ramcharran since he (Singh) resides in the same street where the latter’s bar is located. It was said that Ramcharran had secured his business place at about 00:10hrs and left to go home. When he returned at about 08:30hrs on the same day, he noticed that there was no padlock on the western grill door. As a result he then went further into the bar and made checks and discovered that the items mentioned in the charge were missing.

The police said upon checking his CCTV camera, Ramcharran saw two persons removing the beverages from the bar and he immediately identified Singh as one of the persons.
