The Ministry of Health yesterday announced that a new COVID-19 death has been recorded.
The latest fatality has been identified as a 42-year-old man of Region Six, East Berbice-Corentyne, who died on Friday. His vaccination status was listed as unknown.
The new death has increased the country’s death toll from the virus to 1,285.
Meanwhile, the ministry also reported yesterday that 8 new cases were recorded after 57 more COVID tests were conducted. The ministry’s updated COVID-19 dashboard showed that five of the new cases were from Region Four, while one was from Region Six and two were from Region Nine.
The updated dashboard also showed that four persons were still in the COVID Intensive Care Unit, while two were in institutional isolation and 110 were in home isolation.
Recently, Minister of Health Frank Anthony urged greater precaution by the public as the ministry has seen a rise in cases.
“…COVID is not over. I know a lot of people would want to think so but we are now having [an] increase in cases despite low levels of testing and we are seeing a number of those persons having severe infections that warrants hospitalization and in some cases it’s so serious that they’re going into the ICU,” Anthony said during a recent COVID-19 update. “I wanna make an appeal to everyone, make sure that your vaccines are up-to-date, that you have gotten your booster shots because there seems to be a new wave that’s coming and we are seeing the beginning of that wave so we need to be prepared,” he added.
