The file on the arrest of an attorney by the Special Organised Crime Unit [SOCU] has been returned by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions [DPP] to the Guyana Police Force.
Stabroek News on Monday had been told by the Office of the DPP that the file had not yet been returned to the police. The office of the DPP yesterday clarified that the file had in fact been returned to the police.
The DPP’s legal recommendations will be critical in determining what actions, if any, will be taken against the SOCU officer, Krishnadat Ramana. On October 27th, Ramana had ordered that attorney Tamieka Clarke be arrested after she advised her client of the right to remain silent while being questioned. Clarke has since sued the State over her arrest by SOCU.
