Only time will tell if the old voting patterns continue uninterrupted

Dear Editor,

It is interesting what is going on in Georgetown. Will there be a repeat of the ungratefulness that occurred in the 1960s? Is the President gaining votes or strengthening the opposition? If history has taught us anything, it is that the PPP may need to step back and take a look at the broader picture. The criticisms increase in the newspapers, while improvements are being made. Yes there are areas such as within the EPA’s area of responsibility where improvements must be made, but we should also take the time to acknowledge what is going well. Is there such a high level of ungratefulness for an administration that is doing more for all Guyanese than was done for their core supporters after we gained independence to become a sovereign nation?

The polls will be telling. It’s never good to bite the hand that feeds you. Seeing someone who looks like you in charge is less important if the benefits being realized are not being restricted due to political and racial differences. However, the Guyanese electorate has shown in the past that regardless of how much goodwill there is, the old voting patterns remain the same. The swing voters are already leaning PPP, will the new generation of “PNC voters” be persuaded? Only time will tell. CRG looks forward to seeing the continued push for cooperation at the grassroots level. The country’s development will be better as a result.

Sincerely,
