The autopsy conducted on the remains of 75-year-old Agatha Gamell, the Charity Housing Scheme grandmother who was killed on Sunday, has revealed that she died from multiple injuries to her body.

The autopsy was conducted on Thursday by government pathologist Dr Nehaul Singh.

Meanwhile, the granddaughter of the deceased is currently hospitalised at the psychiatric ward of the Georgetown Public Hospital under police guard.

Essequibo Commander Khemraj Shivbaran has said that the police are not in a position to comment on the case until the suspect is released from the hospital. To date, investigators have not taken a statement from her.

The pensioner was found dead 15 minutes after neighbours heard her screaming in the wee hours of Sunday morning.  Her body had stab wounds and was battered according to her daughter.

Simone Gamell, the aunt of the suspect, said that her niece, a teacher, was suffering from post-partum depression as she began behaving strangely after giving birth to her first child.
