A constable was placed on $400,000 bail yesterday after he was faced with the charge of raping a teenage boy.
Police Constable Neal Dookram, 24, of Lot 233 Land of Canaan, East Bank Demerara, was arrested on September 27.
However, Dookram was only charged on Thursday when he appeared at the Whim Magistrate’s Court, where he was accused of raping a child under sixteen years and causing a child under sixteen years to engage in sexual activity.
The offences were allegedly committed on the Corentyne.
Dookram was not required to enter a plea to the indictable charges.
He was then placed on $200,000 bail for each of the charges.
He is due to return to court on February 16 for his next hearing.
