The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) yesterday morning successfully conducted a Medical Evacua-tion for a 30-year-old female patient from the Matthews Ridge Hospital, Region One (Barima/ Waini).
A release from the GDF said that the Bell 412 crew, consisted of Lieutenant Colonel Michael Charles and Major Kevin Langevine, crew member Lance Corporal Mel Glen, Grade Two Medic, Corporal Godwin Mitchell, and a doctor and nurse from the Georgetown Public Hospital Co-operation (GPHC).
The patient late on Wednesday afternoon, delivered a baby at the medical institution, subsequently, she developed complications and a second baby was discovered by medical personnel. Unable to deliver the baby safely, a request was made for assistance from the GDF. Chief of Staff (ag) Colonel Omar Khan, gave the approval for all necessary medical assistance to be provided for the patient, the release said.
Force Medical Officer, Lieutenant Colonel, Dr Nigel Langhorne worked throughout the night to secure GDF and GPHC medical personnel for the ingoing and outbound flight, blood for transfusion to stabilize the patient and all necessary arrangements to ensure the safe transport of the patient.
The crew left Matthews Ridge a little after 0600 hours this morning and arrived at Base Camp Ayanganna at 0900 hours. The patient was then transported by GDF ambulance to GPHC.
