CANU arrests four after Charlestown drugs bust

Four persons are now in custody after ranks from the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) pursued a suspect into a yard at Smythe Street, Charlestown, where quantities of cannabis and cocaine were found.

CANU, in a release said, that its ranks conducted a surveillance operation on Friday in the vicinity of Church Street, where it observed a suspicious transaction.

As a result, they pursued one of the suspects to his residence at Lot 89 Smythe Street, Charlestown, Georgetown where a subsequent search was conducted on the property. The search uncovered five brick-like parcels, suspected to be cocaine, and two plastic bags containing suspected cannabis.

The discovery led to the arrest of 28-year-old Javed Ragnauth, Samantha Nasemento, 32 of the aforementioned address along with 35-year-old Yancy Garraway of Lot 2 North Road, Bourda and Charles Jones, 48, a miner of Lot 451 Four-Mile Housing Scheme, Bartica.

The four individuals were escorted to CANU headquarters along with the suspected narcotics which both tested positive for cannabis and cocaine. It was said that the cannabis amounted to 1.520 kg while the cocaine had a total weight of 3.312 kg.
