A Good Hope man was on Friday night electrocuted while three other persons were injured as they came into contact with a live wire while erecting a metal Christmas tree at Lusignan, East Coast Demerara.
The dead man has been identified as Deepak Ramdeen, 29, a machinist.
The Guyana Police Force, in a statement on the fatal incident, said yesterday that Ramdeen, along with Gupta Ramcharran, called ‘Billy’, 45, a fitter machinist, of Lot 139 East Lusignan, Mahendra Ramcharran, 41, businessman of Good Hope; and Shivraj Rulall, 20, of Mon Repos, was erecting the metal tree outside Gupta Ramcharran’s home on Friday night when the tragedy occurred.
The men were using a crane attached to a lorry bearing registration GCA 9708. It was being operated by Darampaul Prettipaul.
From investigations, it was reported that the star on the top of the 27-ft tall tree came into contact with a live wire overhead.
Police said the contact with the wire resulted in Ramdeen and the others receiving electrical shocks to their bodies. They were all rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH). Ramdeen, however, succumbed while receiving treatment, while the Ramcharran and Rulall were admitted as patients in the Burns Unit at the GPH.
Investigations are ongoing, the police said.
