Bent Street and Future Stars will contest the men’s final while Fruta Conquerors and Tiger Bay will battle in the women’s championship match of the MVP Sports Futsal Championship on Saturday following respective semi-final wins last Saturday evening.

Hosted at the National Gymnasium on Mandela Avenue, and witnessed by a sizable crowd, Bent Street bested Gold is Money 5-3. It was the Omari Glasgow show as the forward recorded a helmet trick.

Falling behind to a Darren Benjamin strike in the fourth minute, Glasgow levelled proceedings two minutes later, slamming the ball into the lower left corner following a passing combination. Glasgow sealed his double under similar circumstances in the 10th minute after Benjamin had handed Gold is Money the lead once more in the ninth minute, rifling a strike into the roof of the left corner from outside the left of the penalty area.

He then sealed his hat-trick in the 16th minute to make it 3-2, blasting a right footed strike into the lower left corner from the right side of the field.

Benjamin, who seemed to be in a locked in miniature duel with Glasgow, equalised in the 20th minute to complete his hat-trick, slotting to the left of the net, after receiving a pass from Hubert Pedro.

However, two goals in the space of two minutes propelled Bent Street to the result. Deon Alfred with a moment of individual skill in the 21st minute pushed Bent Street ahead, dribbling his marker, before skipping past the onrushing goalkeeper in a similar manner and slotting home into the back of the empty het. Glasgow then completed the result and his helmet trick in the 23rd minute as he finished into the left corner.

In the other semi,  Future Stars edged Stabroek Ballers 2-1. Tyrese Dennis recorded a double in the sixth and 22nd minute. On target in the loss was Dorwin George in the 26th minute.

In the women’s division, Fruta Conquerors downed GT Panthers 3-2. Sandra Johnson bagged a brace in the 18th and 26th minute, while Jessica Teasdale scored in the 16th minute. For GT Panthers, Fiona Benjamin and Glendy Lewis scored in the seventh and 12th minute respectively. Tiger Bay edged the Guyana Police Force 2-1. Chastady Archer and Afena Baptiste scored in the fifth and sixth minute respectively. For the loser, Tandi Smith found the back of the net in the fourth minute.

The first prize in the men’s tournament is $500,000 with $300,000, $200,000, and $100,000 for the second, third and fourth-placed finishers respectively along with the corresponding accolades. The women’s first prize is $200,000 with $100,000, $50,000, and $20,000 respectively for the next three finishers.

The other sponsors of the event include Magnum Tonic Wine, Lucozade Energy Drink, the National Sports Commission, and Luminous Manufacturing and Distributions, who have donated two model 1146 (46cc) motorcycles.
