Residents in Suddie Housing Scheme in Region Two found themselves bailing out water from their premises after the area experienced two hours of heavy rainfall yesterday morning with some relating that their houses were in several inches of water.
Shazeeda Roshan said she was not at home when the water rushed into her home. She received a call from her neighbour and when she arrived she was shocked to see the amount of water that had accumulated in her premises.
“When I came, oh my God, it was so much water till in my bed, my children documents and books wet up, everything was under water the bed, the fridge, the sponge it was crazy” the distraught woman related.
She then had to disconnect all of her electrical appliances and rent a pump to drain the water out of her house. Her neighbours too were also facing the same dilemma.
Roshan explained that she now has to find a place to sleep for the night since the water is taking a long time to recede. It was the first time she was flooded. When asked what could have caused such flooding, she responded that it likely was the heavy rainfall coupled with clogged drains in the community.
Roshan’s neighbours could be seen also bailing water from their premise. Residents related that they were shocked to see the amount of water on their land. They are counting their losses since many of their electrical appliances and kitchen gardens were under water.
Chairman of the Annandale Riverstown NDC, Charran Sarabjeet, said that several communities had an accumulation of water and an overseer is currently in the fields assessing the situation. He also complained that persons are dumping garbage in nearby trenches clogging the trenches. He disclosed that recently, pipes and tubes were installed in different communities to assist in the drainage.
