With heavy rainfall forcing cricket indoors, the Guyana Cricket Board has decided to bowl off a series of Under-13 inter-county trial matches at the National Gymnasium, Homestretch Avenue, Georgetown, with Ravid Fredericks and Rayad Latiff making quite an impression.
Latiff spurred Demerara to a comfortable 29-run win over Essequibo after scoring 58 and taking 3-24.
Demerara posted 239 all out in 38 overs with skipper, Brandon Henry top scoring with 77 and Mikai Dowlin chalking up 29. Ethan Silas took 4-24 while Justin Henry and Darnius Pearson took two wickets each.
In reply, Essequibo were rolled over for 210 with Fredericks scoring 60 and Elias making 40. Kush Seegobin took 4-33.
Earlier, Fredericks scored 100 from 88 balls, all of which came in boundaries to see his side reach 182 for two with three balls to spare. Danish Singh took 2-21 for Berbice.
When Berbice batted, Richard Ramdeholl finished on 49 not out while Mohammed Balle made 47. Nathaniel Ramsammy was unbeaten on 29 while Arif Bacchus also made 29 as Berbice reached 181 for five in 30 overs. Mark Abemuller took 2-9.
In the opening round, Demerara defeated Essequibo by five runs. Essequibo won the toss and inserted Demerara to bat in the T20 match where they reached 136 for four. Essequibo were bowled out for 131 in 18.3 overs.
For Demerara, opener Lomar Seecharran top scored with 56 with support coming from Khush Seegobin (37) and Jamaine Grovesner (31). Darious Pearson took 2-20.
Pearson returned with bat in hand to make 48 as Henry supported with 20, and Silas making 16. Left-arm pacer, Thierry Davise took 3-23 while Patrice Frazer took 2-23.
